So the London Winter 10k gets cancelled? Our Athena Ladies do their own 10k, St Albans style!
Months in the planning, the London Winter 10k is one of our Athena Ladies' favourite races. The course is fun, lively and runs through the streets of central London (which is not something you get to do often). With 40 Athena ladies due to run on February 9th, from some running their first 10k race, to ladies who had run the route in 2019, everyone was excited.
However the weather had other ideas and Storm Ciara hit the London streets making it unsafe for everyone involved! It is safe to say we were disappointed as months of training came crashing down.
However, there was a silver lining. The organisers announced that if you could complete a 10k run up to a week after the race you would still qualify for your medal, and of course Athena Ladies Running Club jumped into action!
And so with a route planned and our run leaders ready to help pace, the Athena 10k run took place on Wednesday 12th February 2020 with over 30 ladies running in 3 different paced groups. It was brilliant fun and smiles all round despite the cold weather. Everyone felt a great sense of achievement at the end of the route and some had just completed their first ever 10k!
Don't worry, we will be back again next year for the London Winter 10k 2021, weather permitting!
